What is MessageRetriever?
You've heard of message in a bottle? How about all your e-mail at the touch of a button? MessageRetriever lets you access all your POP3 mail accounts from one site. Get your work e-mail at home, your personal e-mail at work. Store messages and send attachments from your own system. Just enter your e-mail address and password and we'll deliver your e-mail to the screen. We'll save your login so that you'll only have to type it once. This is fast, easy access to all your e-mail - because you've got better things to do online than wait!

Is MessageRetriever Web e-mail, like Hotmail?
No! Traditional Web e-mail services provide you a new e-mail address, use their own e-mail servers and make you follow their rules. MessageRetriever allows you to access your existing e-mail accounts with your own address, on your own server.

How do I use MessageRetriever?
Just enter you e-mail address and password at the login screen.

How do I register my e-mail address?
You don't! Just enter your e-mail login and password and MessageRetriever's sophisticated software will take care of the rest.

Why do I have to wait for the mail to load?
Although MessageRetriever is fast, it can sometimes take a while to retrieve mail from your server. This may be because of traffic between our servers and your server. If you're patient, it shouldn't take longer than a few seconds to retrieve your e-mail. If you continuously receive an error message, let us know via Report an Error.

Can I read my mail more than once?
Yes, unless you use the delete feature to delete your e-mail, your messages remain on your server and can be accessed at any time. Whenever you're online you'll be able to access all your e-mail accounts and all your messages until you choose to delete them.

However once you have downloaded your e-mails to your own computer using for e.g Outlook / Outlook Express only new messages will be able to be accessed by MessageRetriever.

Does MessageRetriever store my e-mail?
MessageRetriever acts as gateway which allows you to read your e-mail, but not to store or copy it. MessageRetriever converts information from your mail server into a web viewable format. With this system, e-mail can't be stored, held, or logged in any way. If you'd like a record of your sent items, use the CC (carbon copy to myself) function when you're sending e-mail.

Why does my session keep expiring?
Web e-mail poses the question of security and privacy, especially if you're using a public terminal. We've tried to keep MessageRetriever as secure as possible by adding an expiration time to your session. We'll prompt you to re-enter your password once that time is reached.

Why do my e-mail address and password get entered in to the form automatically?
Some browsers, like Internet Explorer 5, feature an "AutoComplete" function that remembers what you type in to forms. If you're concerned about security, you can disable this function via your "Tools" Menu, under "Internet Options".

What is POP3?
Most e-mail servers on the Internet use POP3 - Post Office Protocol, version 3. POP3 is a protocol that standardizes the way computers on the Internet send and receive e-mail messages. MessageRetriever is designed to work with POP3, and may not work with other e-mail systems, such as those used by AOL, MSN, ATT WorldNet.

Introduction

You may have noticed that our privacy statement is quite brief, especially compared to other internet companies. However, this brevity is for a very good reason. We do not keep a permanent record, store or in any way deal with any of Your personal information, including, Your email address, password, received or sent emails &/or attachments, the email addresses of senders / recipients of emails addressed to you &/or sent by you, and other information that might be contained in or relating to your emails.

We cannot stress strongly enough that the information that You provide us to access the service and subsequently passes through the MessageRetriever server is an important part of our business, and as such, we are not in the business of selling it to others. We do not rent or sell Your Personally Identifiable Information (PII) to any third-party.

How MessageRetriever Works

To understand how we handle Your PII You should understand how MessageRetriever works. In the simplest of terms, MessageRetriever undertakes the following steps so as to enable You to use the service:

  • Captures Your email address and password,
  • Ascertains and identifies the POP3 server in which Your mail is located (eg Your ISP or work email server),
  • Sends Your email address and password to the POP3 mail server,
  • The POP3 mail server authenticates that You are who You say You are,
  • The POP3 mail server then sends electronic copies (not the originals) of Your emails, along with attachments, to the MessageRetriever server to enable You to view them on the browser / computer from which You are accessing MessageRetriever, eg an internet café, a friends house, a hotel room, etc,
  • From here You are able to read, reply to, forward and delete Your email. You are also able to send new emails to Your contacts. All these operations are undertaken from Your POP3 mail server via Your instructions sent through our server,
  • Once You have finished using MessageRetriever then all of the above steps are DELETED from our server within 30 minutes. As You will appreciate, we are not interested in clogging up our server with Your PII nor are we interested in reading Your emails!

How we protect Your information for the short time we store it

For the short amount of time that Your PII is contained on our server, LTDnetwork is dedicated to the security of Your PII, and we take commercially reasonable precaution to maintain that protection. Our key objective in this regard is to prevent unauthorized access or disclosure, maintain data accuracy, and facilitate the appropriate use of information.

The MessageRetriever server is protected by a commercial firewall.

Save Function

You will note that MessageRetriever contains a "save" function that enables You to save your email address & password. This information is not saved on the MessageRetriever server. Rather, it is saved on the actual computer that You are using when You press the Save button. It is stored on this computer in a "Cookie" which is usually located in the "Cookies" folder within the computers hard drive. The Cookie is also encrypted so that it can only be accessed by MessageRetriever on that particular computer.

We strongly recommend that the "Save" function only be utilized on a computer that You solely use. Using this function on a non-private computer could enable other people who use that computer to read Your email or send email under Your name.
